The following Discussion Board Questions and Topics may be useful for students as stud questions and critical thinking exercises:

Discussion Board #1:

  • Discussion Board #1: In Skinner’s article “The Ethics of Helping People”, he outlined a general ethical perspective of behavior analysts regarding “taking care” of a person.  This perspective has laid the groundwork for today’s ethical practice for behavior analysts.  Discuss this perspective and the relevance to the QABA Ethical Code of Conduct today.  Limit your response to 10 sentences.
  • Discussion Board #2: One of the seven ethical issues a behavior analyst must consider is self-care concerns.  The best thing for behavior analysts to do is to figure out what self-care techniques work for them and have a go-to “toolbox” of coping strategies they can rely on.  Discuss at least three strategies that you might use in your day-to-day life.
  • Discussion Board #3: Provide one example of an ethical consideration when selecting, designing, and implementing non-contingent reinforcement procedures.
  • Discussion Board #4: QBAs and QASP's will need to make complicated and complex decisions throughout their career.  Understanding how to make ethically sound decisions is a highly important skill behavior analysts should practice.  How can a QBA or QASP practice this skill?
  • Discussion Board #5: Skinner’s “The Ethics of Helping People” and Houten et al’s “The Right to Effective Treatment” both predated today’s ethical standards. How did “The Right to Effective Treatment” expand on the perspectives in Skinner’s article.  Discuss two perspectives from Skinner’s “The Ethics of Helping People”  that were supported and expanded on in “The Right to Effective Treatment”
